How Men Dominate The U.S. Media Landscape [Infographic]

This article is more than 8 years old.

There is still a shocking lack of diversity in U.S. news rooms, according to the Women's Media Center. Across print, television and online media, men receive 63 percent of byline credits. Just think about news anchors and evening news in particular. Even though PBS proved a notable exception with women in the anchor's chair 97 percent of the time, overall evening news broadcasts were anchored by men 64 percent of the time.

The gender gap becomes even more evident by focusing on the percentage of men and women reporting on selected U.S. news topics. Sport is one of the very worst categories -  9 out of every 10 sports correspondents are male. Female reporters very rarely outnumber their male colleagues and when it comes to the topics below, they only manage to edge it on religion and education.
