Roman Originals courts media storm with #thedress

Womenswear retailer Roman Originals is at the centre of a social media debate following a picture of a dress that some people see as black and blue and others believe is cream and gold.

The controversy started when a Tumblr user posted a picture of the £50 bodycon lace dress last night (February 26) asking what colour users thought it was to clear up an argument with friends.

It caught the attention of the general public, with celebrities such as Kim Kardashian West and Taylor Swift also wading in on the debate.

Kim Kardashian West wrote on Twitter: “What color is that dress? I see white and gold. Kanye sees black & blue, who is color blind?”

Roman Originals, the Birmingham-headquartered chain which opened its first store in 1995 and its 100th store last year, is maximising its publicity boasting that the dress, which is definitely blue and black, is now back in stock on its website.
